Tracing Violence to Its Source: Exposing Vancouver Mining Companies

April 29, 2013, Vancouver – A “Toxic Tour of Vancouver” will wind through the city’s streets today, stopping at mining corporation headquarters in Vancouver as it makes its way to the opening reception of B.C. Mining Week.

The “Tour” will feature presentations, highly-visual performances and testimonies from communities directly impacted by B.C. mining corporations, as well as live music and theatre. Hundreds are expected to attend the “Tour”, which will end outside the opening reception for B.C. Mining Week with a public banquet and “Peoples’ Gala.”

“We don’t see B.C. Mining as something to ‘celebrate’”, said Toxic Tour spokesperson Beth Dolloga. “In B.C. and across the globe, B.C. mining companies have been responsible for environmental devastation and the violation of peoples’ rights. The ‘Toxic Tour’ exposes the truth behind B.C.’s mining industry.”

Speakers from Mayan, Tibetan, Filipino, Latino, Tsilqot’in, Ahoushat, Secwepemc, Unistot’en communities directly impacted by B.C. mining corporations will be available for interviews at the Toxic Tour departure point.
